Cartridge Type
Genuine or OEM (Original) Cartridges Remanufactured Cartridges Compatible Cartridges
Description OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer, meaning the cartridge was made by the same company that made your printer. Original brand cartridges are very reliable and sometimes the only option if your printer is new to market or uncommon. Remanufactured ink is a genuine brand cartridge that has gone through one cycle of use. After use, the cartridge is recycled, acquired by a remanufacturing facility and put through a rigorous professional refurbishing process. During the refurbishing process the cartridge is disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and tested for quality. It's then carefully refilled, tested again and brought back to life. Buying remanufactured prevents one less cartridge from ending up in a landfill. A compatible cartridge is a brand new ink cartridge built by a manufacturer other than your printer. It's like buying the generic version of the genuine brand. Most are uniquely designed to differentiate from genuine cartridges. Despite any structural difference you may notice, the cartridge will still fit in your machine and print a full yield, just like the original brand.
Price Factors Many printer manufacturers follow the razor-and-blades business model which may result in higher priced genuine cartridges. Remanufactured ink is much cheaper than the original brand ink. It's far more cost effective to refurbish a previously used cartridge than create a new OEM from scratch. Compatible ink is much cheaper than the original brand. Compatible suppliers don't have to worry about the additional costs that hinder OEMs like new printers or firmware, which lets them keep prices low.
Quality Original cartridges work extremely well and are covered under a warranty by the printer manufacturer High quality remanufactured ink will match the quality of the original, but not all remanufactured ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results. High quality compatible ink will match the quality of the original, but not all compatible ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results.
What's the difference between ink and toner cartridges?
Ink Cartridges Toner Cartridges
Printer Type Work with inkjet printers Work with laser printers
Material Liquid ink Dry powder
How it works Inkjet printers use a series of nozzles that spray tiny drops of ink directly on the print suface Laser toner printers use static electricity and heat to bond dry toner powder to a page
Commonly used by Casual home users, small business and photographers Large businesses and schools
Number of Pages You Can Print A cartridge's page yield is the estimated number of pages you can print. Page yield is based on 5% page coverage. This means that the quoted page yield is based upon printed pages where only 5% of the page has been imprinted with ink. For example, a short memo has approximately 5% coverage. If you have a cartridge that has a yield of 500 pages, it can print 500 pages of that short memo. If you are printing letters, photos or graphics, your coverage will vary greatly and your page yield will drop significantly.
Cartridge Warranty and Shelf Life Most ink and toner cartridges include a warranty or "best by" date on their box. Remanufactured and compatible ink cartridges can last 12-18 months unopened, and toner cartridges can last up to 3 years.
Cartridge Care and Storage Only open a cartridge when you need it. Opened cartridges will eventually dry out, especially if the protective tape or clip has been removed. If you have an open ink cartridge around and would like to try and prevent it from drying out, place it nozzle side up in a plastic airtight tub. If your cartridge came with protective tape or a clip reapply both before storing. Place a damp cloth or paper towel in the tub, next to the cartridge and keep it stored in a cool, dark place.

    Q:

Problem with Remanufactured Ink Cartridge - SKU-LD-REMANLX36XL.

Purchased this cartridge for a Lexmark Z2420 printer. I installed the cartridge and I receive error messages that read "unsupported cartridge". The printer will not print. I read some of the messages on this board and tried the suggested troubleshooting techniques, unplug the printer, turn-off printer, clean contacts etc and I still receive the same error message.

What are my options at this point?

    can these cartridges be refilled?

    • A:

The remanufactured cartridges are only intended to be a one time use cartridges. They can be refilled but it is not recommended as the quality can't be guaranteed. It's best to use OEM original branded cartridges for refilling.

Seems to Print Better than Lexmark Cartridges

First off, I would like to say that this is the first time I have ordered from this company, and I was very impressed with their shipping time-I received my cartridges 3days after payment was made, so that was great!

I am in college, and I print CONSTANTLY. I was looking for a cheaper alternative to the Lexmark cartridges, because I've been spending at least $300.00 a year on Lexmark ink for the last couple of years. This wasn't flying with me anymore, so I began looking for an alternative again after having my cartridges refilled a while back, and they didn't work for very long.

At first, when I put these refurbished ink cartridges into my printer, the color cartridge was showing a 94% ink level, and the black cartridge did not "register" at all. I tried to print a test page, and only the color cartridge worked and I kept getting a "Cartridge is not Compatible with this Printer" message for the black cartridge. So, I got "creative" and covered the part of the chip on the black cartridge that tells the printer whether or not the cartridge is able to print. Now, it's printing perfectly. The black cartridge does show a "?" when it shows the status of my print, and the color cartridge still shows 94%, but if not being able to see the percentage of ink that is left on the status box while printing, then I consider it well worth the $25 saved (or about $150.00 a year as long as I keep purchasing these). Some of you may like this warning system though, so I thought this was important to note.

Another thing I would like to say is that when I printed out a Word Document to test these cartridges, I noticed that this ink seems to print "nicer" than the original Lexmark ink. When I print with original Lexmark ink (particularly with the black Lexmark ink), it looks "smeared", or like it "bleeds", and this happens whether the Lexmark ink cartridges are new or old. This ink, on the other hand, does not look like that. I'm not sure if it is because the ink itself is "new" or "fresh" or because the cartridge is clean, and it is something that will eventually start looking like the Lexmark ink, but as of right now, I'm impressed with the look of the print (with both the black and color cartridges).

Lastly, I will say that I hope that this ink lasts. As noted previously, I've had my old cartridges refilled once before, and they lasted about 5 pages or so and quit. If this happens with these cartridges, I guess I will see if I can get "creative" again, and if it doesn't work, I guess I will have to see what my options are as far as returning these and I will have to see if I can edit my review. But, as of right now, I'm completely satisfied and I highly recommend this product.

First, I'd like to say that customer service has been really GREAT! I had to return "2" bad cartridges and received replacements within 2 days each time.

That said, I'm not sure if I will re-order this product or not.

I ordered "2" cartridges of the black ink. The 1st one that I tried did not work - 2nd one worked fine.

The replacement that I received did not work, but the replacement of the replacement did.

So, half of the cartridges that I received worked and half did not.

The price is good, and if I do re-order, I will order at least "2" at a time and check both as soon as they arrive incase I have to ask for replacement again. This way, I will not be waiting on ink to arrive before I can use my printer again.

This is my second cartridge due to the first one not printing. The customer service was great and sent me out another one right away. It must be my printer, it will not recognize the cartridge as compatible and will not print properly.

Smears like all remanufactured ink, but fine for the price.

Comments about Remanufactured Lexmark 36XL High Yield Black Ink:

Good quality for the price. Slight smearing occurs on most pages, so a remanufactured cartridge is not what you want if you need consistent high-quality prints. I don't need great quality, so I will definitely keep getting these.

The cartridge installed and worked immediately - just like OEM. I waited a couple of months to write a review to make sure everything worked okay. It seems to work just like OEM and it's a LOT cheaper. I plan to order from them again.

Works just like the original replacement cartridge. I use more of the black ink than the color so it helps to be able to have affordable replacements on hand. The web site helps me to make sure that I am receiving the correct cartridge for the printers.
