Continuous Ink System (CIS)

The Continuous Ink System or automatic ink refill system is a method by which large tanks of liquid ink (or reservoirs) are connected to a printer. This is seen by some as a useful alternative to using small, individual cartridges that need to be replaced more frequently. While this system is most commonly seen in large professional printers, some personal and small-business printers are moving to CIS. Recently, companies have begun retrofitting normal inkjet printers to incorporate a continuous ink system; however this is not recommended as it can have negative effects on print quality and void your printer’s warranty.

The Downside to Continuous Ink Systems

When customers make aftermarket modifications to their printers and then purchase products specifically made to work with those modifications, the possibility for errors rises greatly. The issues that arise can be both messy and costly- which is why our site does not currently offer large ink tanks for CIS printing. Difficult and dangerous printer modifications such as these do not align with our commitment to offering high-quality products that we can stand by with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

A Cost Saving Alternative

Generally, the goal for customers looking to switch to this system is to save time by changing cartridges less often or to save money by purchasing ink in larger quantities. 4inkjets offers a few ways to do this without making complicated or costly changes to your printer:

  • Try our high-yield printer cartridges that contain significantly more ink or toner and deliver more pages per cartridge

  • Buy cartridges in bulk and take advantage of special savings on our website for a purchase of 3 or more items at a time when available
